The Obama administration announced that for the next three decades the Department of the Interior will not prosecute operators of wind farms whose turbines kill eagles, supposedly in an attempt to avoid discouraging investment in that particular “clean energy” business.

Under pressure from wind power, Obama to allow companies to kill eagles without penalty — as boost to green energy http://t.co/hEVY17amtz

Via the Associated Press:
Under pressure from the wind-power industry, the Obama administration said Friday it will allow companies to kill or injure eagles without the fear of prosecution for up to three decades.
The new rule is designed to address environmental consequences that stand in the way of the nation’s wind energy rush: the dozens of bald and golden eagles being killed each year by the giant, spinning blades of wind turbines.
So, your product killing protected species is acceptable provided you’re engaging in a business approved by the Obama administration?
Hunt bald eagles & go to jail but if u own a 'green energy' boondoggle Obama's giving 30yrs to kill as many as u want http://t.co/rOmgaON9h3

The hypocrisy is being called out big time:

Gotta kill eagles in order to save them. "This is not a program to kill eagles," says AWEA. "This permit program is about conservation."

It's OK for wind farms to kill eagles but it's not OK to have a pipeline that kills nothing!?

Wind Farms: It cool with you if we kill bald eagles for the next 3 decades? Government: It's our official symbol and all, but sure.

It's okay for a wind farm to kill an eagle UNINTENTIONALLY so it should be okay for anyone. Instead you'll go to prison if you touch an egg.

Allowing wind farm operators to go unpunished for the animals their turbines kill, ostensibly to provide the country with “clean energy,” is sure to be the ultimate dilemma for the eco/enviro crowd. That is, if they decide to take notice.
