Michelle Knight releases balloons as house of horrors is razed [video, pics]

On Wednesday morning, brave kidnapping and rape survivor Michelle Knight returned to the Cleveland street where depraved monster Ariel Castro held her captive for 11 years. Church bells reportedly rang out as the house of horrors was demolished. Knight handed out and released yellow helium-filled balloons to remember the missing children who haven’t been found.

The first blow to the house was delivered by the aunt of Gina DeJesus, one of Castro’s other victims.

Local investigative reporter Scott Taylor tweeted photos and video from the emotional scene.

Castro was required to forfeit the house as part of his plea deal. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years.

According to reports, the revolting Castro “broke down in tears when he had to sign over the property deed, saying it was wrong to tear it down because he had so many happy memories there.”

Here’s to many years of new memories for Michelle Knight, Gina DeJesus and Amanda Berry as they reclaim their lives.

Mashable reports that the house of horrors has been blurred out on Google Street View.
